The Gerry O’Brien Financial Canada Games team continues what will be an extremely busy schedule this weekend with three Molson Challenge Cup senior soccer contests against Corner Brook Steers Insurance United on the province’s west coast.

With its 2-2 tie against Feildians Ernst and Young Wednesday night at King George V Park in S. John’s, the Games team began a stretch of nine games in three weeks.

In comparison, the defending champion and league-leading St. Lawrence Laurentians will play just three games over the same period.

However, for the Games team, which owns a 3-3-2 record, the schedule provides important preparation for the 2017 Canada Summer Games later this summer in Winnipeg.

The Games team is competing in Challenge Cup on an exhibition basis and will not participate in the league’s playoffs.

The Games team and Corner Brook will square off 9 p.m. Friday at the Wellington Complex and will also play there at 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Corner Brook (0-9-1) is still looking for its first win of the season.
