Challenge Cup: NL Games team finishes exhibition schedule with tie against Mount Pearl


Newfoundland and Labrador’s men’s Canada Games team finished up its exhibition schedule in Molson Challenge Cup with a 4-4 tie against Mount Pearl First Choice Haircutters Friday night at the Gushue Complex.

The Gerry O’Brien Financial Games team, which will represent the province against the rest of the country in Winnipeg beginning in just over a week, went 6-8-4 in Challenge Cup play.
Jacob Grant scored twice for the Games team, which also got goals from Harry Carter and Fomba Fambulleh.
Braden Coombs, Tyler Forsey, Kevin Oram and Mark Reddy replied for third-place Mount Pearl (7-4-5).
Forsey’s goal was his 12th of the season, tying him for the league lead with Jake Warren of Holy Cross.
There are two games on today’s Challenge Cup schedule, with last-place Corner Brook Steers Insurance United taking on league-leading St. Lawrence Labatt Laurentians on the Burin Peninsula and Feildians Ernst and Young taking on the C.B.S. That Pro Look Strikers at King George V Park in S. John’s. The latter is a matchup of teams battling for the fourth and final playoff spot, with Feildians owning a one-point lead over C.B.S.
