Holy Cross rallies to hand Strikers their second loss in as many days; Laurentians take two from Paradise

Tyler Kirby scored two goals, including the game-winner with six minutes left in regulation, as Holy Cross overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the C.B.S. That Pro Look Strikers 3-2 in Johnson Insurance Challenge Cup provincial men‘s soccer action Sunday at King George Park in St. John’s.

Jake Warren had the other goal for defending champion Holy Cross, while Ben Stone and Nate Jones tallied for the Strikers, who suffered their second loss at KGV in as many days. On Saturday, league-leading Feildians doubled C.B.S. 4-2, with Aaron Buckingham scoring twice for the Double Blues.

Emmanuel Dolo and Zach Hynes also had goals for Feildians, with Nico Boehme and Mitchell King replying for the Strikers.

The other two Challenge Cup games from the weekend were at Centennial Field in St. Lawrence, where the Laurentians downed visiting Paradise 5-1 on Saturday and 3-1 in a Sunday rematch.

League-leading scorer Tyler Forsey had a pair of markers for the Laurentians in both games, putting him at a goal-per-game pace this season.

Sean Drew had St. Lawrence’s other goal on Sunday, while Parker Kelly, Adam Doyle and Brett Hennebury also filled out the scoring sheet for the home side on Saturday.

Reece Morgan had given Paradise an early lead Sunday, while Brandon Clarke tallied for the visiting side on Saturday.

The two wins moved the Laurentians to within a point of first place, although Feildians have a game in hand.
