Memorial’s teams swept two games from the Mount Allison Mounties in the season-opening series last weekend at King George V Park, and now take on the Saint Mary’s Huskies and Dalhousie Tigers starting today.
In Saint Mary’s, the Sea-Hawks face a Huskies team that is still looking for its first win. SMU has two losses and a tie so far. The Tigers, on the other hand, have two wins and a draw.
“We realize that each game will be more difficult,” said MUN coach Jake Stanford, “so our performance has to be consistent, with improved play, as we move forward.”
The Sea-Hawks get fifth-year midfielder Jordi Slaney back into the lineup this weekend. Slaney missed the opening weekend due to academic commitments.
He was a second-team conference all-star last season.
Strikers Tyler Kirby and Tyler Forsey enjoyed a big start to the season. Kirby enjoyed a pair of two-goal games last weekend, while Forsey booted three goals against the Mounties.
Game times are 3:45 p.m. (NL time) today against the Huskies, and 3:45 p.m. (NL time) Sunday against the Tigers.
Both games can be watched live on AUStv.ca
The Lady Hawks also face a Huskies squad seeking its first win (0-3) and a Dal team that is unbeaten (3-0).
Dalhousie beat Saint Mary’s 1-0 Thursday night in Halifax.
The Sea-Hawks have five players with two goals each on the season — Emily Bailey, Jessie Noseworthy, Jane Pope, Lauren Taylor, and Nicole Torraville — and the team leads the AUS with 12 goals.
Rookie keeper Sydney Walsh is coming off back-to-back clean sheets against the Mounties.
Games times today and Sunday against the Huskies and Tigers are 1:30 p.m. (NL time) both days.
Those games are also carried live on AUStv.ca
