The Strikers remain undefeated in the young Molson Challenge Cup provincial men's soccer season after defeating the Canada Games Gerry O'Brien Financial team 2-0 at the Topsail Trurf Complex.
Strikers' coach Gary Forsyth had seen the game as a potential "banana peel" for his team which had opened the schedule with a win over Holy Cross and a tie against Mount Pearl. But C.B.S. got tallies from Fouad Matar and Daniel Quinn to go along with a second straight shutout by goalkeeper D'Arcy Bennett in claiming the home-pitch victory.
It was the first contest of the 2017 Challenge Cup season for the Games team, which is competing in the league on an exhibition basis. The young squad is back at it Friday night as it takes on the defending champion St. Lawrence Laurentians at 7 p.m. at the Gushue Complex in Mount Pearl.
