Women’s soccer champ to be crowned this weekend

The 2017 Breen’s Jubilee Trophy provincial women’s soccer championship will be decided this weekend, and Holy Cross figures to be the odds-on favourite.

Holy Cross ran away with the league this season, with 13 wins in 16 games.

The Canada Games squad finished second, but that team won’t be involved in the playoffs, having played this season on an exhibition basis. Instead, Feildians and C.B.S. Kirby Group — who finished with identical records — will play in Thursday’s 7 p.m. semifinal. The winner plays Holy Cross in the final slated for 7 p.m. Saturday. Both games are the Topsail Pitch in C.B.S.

Holy Cross, Feildians and C.B.S. Kirby will be bolstered by the addition of Canada Games players who will be disbursed to their rosters.
