In what’s become a regular recent occurrence, Eric Healey turned in another dominant pitching performance at Lions Park Thursday night in leading his Conception Bay Central Junior Canadians to victory.
Healey struck out 17 batters as C.B.C. downed the Roebothan McKay Marshall Republic 3-1 for their fourth win in five games to start the 2018 Molson St. John’s intermediate softball season.
Healey has been the pitcher of record in all five games, totalling 71 strikeouts in 34 innings. After a season-opening loss to the defending champion Lafontaine Club, a a game in which he had eight strikeouts, Healey has pitched four wins over the past week, averaging nearly 16 Ks per game.
On Thursday, he allowed just four hits and just one walk.
Losing pitcher Matt Power (5W, 4K) also surrendered just four hits, two of them to Daniel Byrne, who scored twice for the Junior Canadians.
A second scheduled game between Placentia-based Lafontaine and Goulds-based Sable Building and Design was postponed because of weather conditions.
