Wet weather washed out what was to have been the opening game of semifinal series between the defending champion OMT Shamrocks and Holy Cross, but the St. John’s Molson senior baseball playoffs did get underway Monday night at St. Pat’s Ball Park.

In the game that was played before the rain proved too much, the fourth-place Knights upset the first-place RMM Gonzaga Vikings 7-4 despite not scoring a single earned run.

The Vikings had a dozen hits to six for the Knights, but winning pitcher A.J. Whiffen (0W, 7K, 2HB) persevered for a complete-game victory.

Whiffen had two hits and scored twice for the winners, while Bernie Madden had two hits for Gonzaga.

The semifinals are best-of-five series.
