The St. Lawrence Laurentians moved into sole possession of third place in the standings with a win and a tie on home turf over the weekend in Johnsons Challenge Cup provincial men’s soccer.
At Centennial Field in St. Lawrence, the Laurentians blanked Mount Pearl 1-0 Saturday on a Tyler Forsey goal in the 83rd minute. John Douglas provided shutout goaltending.
On Sunday, the teams played to a 1-1 draw. Forsey scored again for the Big Blue, at 56 minutes, after Mark Mackey opened scoring for the visitors in the 51st minute.
The Laurentians have 36 points, three behind Holy Cross.
Meanwhile, the frontrunning Feildians padded their lead with a 2-0 shutout win over C.B.S. Sunday at King George V Park.
Thomas Osmond, at 11 minutes, and Devon Ryan in the 63rd minute supplied the scoring, while Braeden Sheppard had the clean sheet.
At King George V Saturday, Holy Cross and C.B.S. played to a 3-3 tie.
Mike Dunne had a pair of goals, at 45 and 77 minutes, for the Crusaders, and Scott Woodfine scored in the 88th minute. Ryan Day (49 minutes), Nico Boehme (63) and Tony Pomroy (75) had the C.B.S. goals.
Two games are set for Wednesday. At King George V, Feildians and Holy Cross clash in a big one, while out in Paradise, the host expansion squad takes on Mount Pearl.
