Minor hockey player Ryan Greene is The Telegram sports department’s choice as athlete of the week.
Greene helped the Tricom Thunder win the Atlantic AAA bantam hockey championship last weekend, in thrilling fashion at Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay.
Greene scored the game-winning goal at 1:49 of overtime as the Thunder beat The Gulls from the Halifax area 4-3 in the gold-medal game.
The Thunder actually trailed 3-1 with just under a minute to play in regulation, scoring two goals within a minute to tie things up, setting the stage for Greene’s game-winner.
Greene finished the tournament with five goals and nine points in four games. He was awarded Top 6 Golden Select award, or all-star designation.
