The Paradise Minor Hockey Association (PMHA) began its 2017-18 schedule Sunday … and then hit a big rut.

As of 11:30 p.m. Sunday, the Paradise Double Ice Complex, the minor association’s centre of activity, was closed as the Town of Paradise prepared to lock out 120 unionized municipal workers the next morning.

In a release on its website, the PMHA while it will not be able to offer programming at the Paradise Double Ice Complex, all games involving association teams — the Paradise Warriors — that have been scheduled at other rinks will continue as scheduled.

As well, the PMHA executive says it will “be looking at other alternatives in the coming days,” which would suggest the association may be hoping for a quick resolution to the contract dispute.

Besides the Paradise Double Ice Complex, other recreational facilities in the community affected by the lockout include the Paradise Youth and Community Centre, St. Thomas Community Centre, Dianne Whalen Memorial Soccer Complex, Milton Road Softball Complex and Peter Barry Duff Memorial Park.
