History was made this week at Kilbride Lions Park with the playing of the inaugural game in A League of Their Own, the all-female baseball league launched by the St. John’s Minor Baseball Association this season.
Last year, individual female teams competed in SJMBA rookie, mosquito, peewee and bantam divisions that otherwise featured boys teams.
This year, a four-team league comprised of mosquito- and peewee-aged female players was created, with almost 60 registered to play.
The Nationals and Rangers are the other teams in A League of Their Own.
The Phillies won the first-ever contest 3-1.
