Newfoundlanders Victoria Bennett and Kaitlyn Bouzane are joining the rest of the world in a game of hockey later this month.
Bennett, who is from St. John’s, and Bouzane, who is from Gander, have been selected to participate in the 2018 Global Game hosted by the Ontario Women's Hockey Association in cooperation with Hockey Canada and the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Global Game, which was initiated in 2015, sees players from all over the world participate in one two-game that unites players across six continents as teammates and celebrates female hockey.
Last year, 38 countries participated, with each nation icing two sides that represented Team Blue and Team White and accumulated a score that was tallied as the games traveled west from New Zealand until the finale in Canada.
Bennett is a forward for the St. John's Caps under-15 female team, while Bouzane plays defence for the Gander Flyers U15s. The two bantam players players were selected through an application process that saw players submit a 250-word essay explaining why they were deserving to represent Hockey NL in the game.
The Canadian segment of this year’s Global Game is March 11 at the Iceland Arena in Mississauga, Ont.
