CLARENVILLE, N.L.
A local restaurant is extending a special invitation to anyone who may miss the warmth and comfort of a turkey dinner this Christmas.
Management and staff of the Galley Restaurant in Clarenville are hoping to fill their dining room on Tuesday, Dec. 25, for a complimentary Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.
“It’s for people who are alone, sick, or who maybe can’t do it financially,” explained staff member Courtney Follett. “But it’s not just for those struggling financially, either. It can be for anybody. Like, there could be an elderly person or someone who is home alone and doesn’t want to cook a big turkey dinner just for themselves.”
They have room for about 40 diners. The meal will be served at noon. However, they will consider hosting an additional dinner at 2 p.m. if there is enough interest.
Their goal is to bring the community together and give families a memorable meal, in the spirit of the season.
“The manager of the Galley, Jeanette Strong, was watching a Christmas movie and that’s where the idea came from,” says Follett. “She can’t remember which one, but she cried and said, ‘I have to do this.’ Her and her husband will be cooking this meal.”
Anyone interested in partaking in the Christmas Day dinner are asked to R.S.V.P. to the Galley Restaurant by Dec. 20.
“We’re all excited and the owners are excited as well,” she said.
