ST. ANTHONY, N.L.

Great Northern Port Inc. has submitted an environmental preview report for its Crémaillère Harbour marine port development project.

Completion of the document, which is available at www.mae.gov.nl.ca/env_assessment/projects/Y2017/1933/index.html, was required by the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment back in January.

The harbour is located just south of St. Anthony.

Plans for the project include the creation of an industrial subdivision and deep water marine port with Great Northern Port Inc. looking to start the first of three phases of construction in 2020.

Additional information to be contained in the report included the impact of the project on marine life; the numbers and distribution of other wildlife species activities; and operations associated with the ballast wastewater/bilge disposal facility, the graving dock, and the bulk ore loading/offloading storage facility.

Public comments on the report can be emailed to environmental assessment committee chair John Reynolds at [email protected] or to [email protected].

They may also be mailed to: Environmental Assessment Division, Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment, Fourth Floor, West Block, Confederation Building, P.O. Box 8700, St. John’s, NL A1B 4J6.

Public comments must be received by Jan. 9, 2019. The minister’s decision on the report is due by Jan. 19, 2019.
