The brand represents the rich cultures of both indigenous groups, a news release stated Friday.

“IDLP has enjoyed an excellent relationship with PAL Airlines over the last 20 years and we are excited to launch our new brand for this partnership,” IDLP business manager Simon Osmond said in the release.

“Air Borealis is positioned very well for future growth and enhanced service. We thank the NGC leadership for working with us to make this a reality and look forward to continued success.”

Chris Webb, president and CEO of NGC, said Air Borealis will improve air service to Nunatsiavut and other Labrador communities.

“NGC is delighted to partner with IDLP and PAL Airlines to build on the decades of exceptional service to the people of this region,” he said.

PAL Airlines CEO Brian Chafe commended the two groups for their level of cooperation.

“We are very honoured to be part of this historic indigenous partnership,” he said.

Air Borealis, which begins operations effective today, will continue to provide air service to coastal Labrador and will be the introducing a new midday flight to the north coast.

Access to more aircraft will also mean faster response times and greater capacity for the delivery of goods and passengers, the release stated.

The company has a board of directors with equal representation from each of its three partners.

In a separate release on Friday, PAL announced, starting Sunday, it will offer air transportation service to seven new destinations in the Quebec Lower North Shore region.
