The Johnson Geo Centre received a $2.2M contribution from the Hebron project in an announcement at the geological interpretation facility on Friday.
The contribution was made in recognition of Hebron’s first year of operations.
The funds will be used to update and expand the ExxonMobil Oil and Gas Gallery, an exhibit designed to educate visitors about the oil and gas industry in the province.
Planned upgrades include a larger gallery space, updated exhibits, and the installation of an interactive drilling simulator that will provide a virtual reality experience of Hebron platform drilling operations.
The updated gallery is expected to open in 2020.
“We hope it inspires our young people to develop their talents and pursue careers in the industry,” said ExxonMobil Canada president Carman Mullins.
The funds come specifically from ExxonMobil Canada Properties and the Hebron Project Employers’ Association.
The Johnson Geo Centre is located on Signal Hill and gets about 50,000 visitors every year.
