Cod stewardship fishery extended to Nov. 28 for Newfoundland harvesters

The commercial cod fishing season for Newfoundland harvesters has been extended to the end of November.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) announced today, Nov. 4, an extension to the Stewardship cod fishery in NAFO regions 3KL for certain vessel classes.

The fishery, which is executed by commercial fish harvesters, is being extended to Nov. 28 for vessel classes A295 and A283.

The Regional Director General for DFO in Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2020-247 has been revoked and Variation Order 2020-248 comes into effect Nov. 5.

This season extension also applies to Cod Quality program participants in vessel classes A157, A158, A159, and A294.

New licence conditions are required for fish harvesters and are available through the National Online Licencing System (NOLS).
