ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A cannabis company based in Newfoundland and Labrador is getting ready to open its first retail location.

Atlantic Cultivation, a company working toward operating a production facility in St. John's, is opening its first retail store under the Spiritleaf brand this weekend.

The store, located at 673 Topsail Rd., will be open for business Saturday, with a virtual ribbon cutting taking place Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. According to a news release from the St. John's Board of Trade, more Spiritleaf stores will open in St. John's and Central Newfoundland.

“We are pleased to welcome our new member, Atlantic Cultivation, and their first Spiritleaf retail location into the business community,” board of trade chairman Andrew Wadden said in the release. “Small businesses like Atlantic Cultivation continue to showcase the quality of goods and talent available in the province, while creating jobs and contributing to our economy.”

The provincial government announced a 20-year production and supply agreement with Atlantic Cultivation last fall. Spiritleaf stores are franchised through Inner Spirit Holdings Ltd.
