White Hills Ski Resort at Clarenville will remain closed to skiing, even though the Clarenville region moved to COVID Alert Level 4 last week.
In a post on its Facebook page today, March 2, the board of directors said they made the decision because of the close proximity of Clarenville to the Avalon region, which remains in lockdown under Alert Level 5, and considering the continued travel restrictions.
The province’s Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Janice Fitzgerald continues to advise against non-essential travel to and from the Avalon region.
The board of directors of White Hill said while they are disappointed at how the season is playing out, “we feel this is the responsible choice in an effort to do our part to keep the community of Clarenville and area safe during this time.”
The board said it will post an update on March 12. That’s the date the Level 5 restrictions for Avalon region will be reviewed.
The board added there’s still plenty of fresh snow on the hill, and if the COVID situation changes there could be an opportunity for spring skiing into April.
