ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — To help with the rollout of its NL Genome Project, Sequence Bio has hired Joy Buckle as its new vice president of policy and planning.
Buckle brings nearly 20 years of experience in stakeholder engagement, policy development, and leadership to the St. John’s-based biotechnology firm.
She previously worked in a leadership role in the office of the premier, most recently as senior advisor for social policy and ATTIPA coordinator. Prior to that she spent seven years as the provincial Liberal party’s director of research and policy.
Buckle holds an MBA and an Masters of Science focusing in cancer research from Memorial University, and spent seven years in management at the telemedicine/teleconferencing division at the university’s faculty of medicine.

In a release announcing the appointment, the company says Buckle will offer strategic direction to the project and drive stakeholder engagement.
“With the NL Genome Project enrolling participants in 8 clinics in Newfoundland and Labrador, Joy’s experience with building relationships and helping manage large projects will play an essential role as we continue to expand across the province,” stated Chris Gardner, CEO of Sequence Bio.
