Anne Whelan, president and CEO of Seafair Capital, which operates companies such as CareGivers Inc. and BrenKir Industrial Supply, was named entrepreneur of the year.
Christina Dove, owner of the Newfoundland Chocolate Company, was the recipient of the female entrepreneur of the year award.
Whelan and Dove will move on to be evaluated by a national adjudication committee for consideration to be included in the Startup Canada Awards Grand Finale in Ottawa on Oct. 19.
