TRURO, N.S. – A restaurant that has operated in the Truro Mall for 16 years has closed its doors.

Paul Chisholm, owner of the Truro franchise of Jungle Jim’s Eatery, said he decided to close the restaurant for a combination of business and personal health reasons.

“It’s been a little slow,” he said.

Chisholm said the restaurant also needed a financial investment to give it a facelift that he was not prepared to undertake. The shutdown resulted in the loss of 18 full- and part-time jobs.

He said the franchise is for sale and Truro Mall officials are actively trying to market the business.

“Hopefully it will work out for everybody involved.”

The restaurant closing took effect Sunday.

A sign on the door directs customers to other Jungle Jim’s locations in Stellarton and Bayers Lake.

A website for the restaurant chain indicates it had a total of 26 locations prior to the closing of the Truro site. Of those, 14 are located in Newfoundland and Labrador, six are in New Brunswick, five are in Nova Scotia and one in Edmonton.
