Enactus Memorial’s Smart Cookie project claimed a pair of regional champion honours at the Enactus Canada Regional Exposition last week in Halifax.

The social enterprise employs at-risk youth to create a healthy, edible cookie dough for kids, and for every product sold, a breakfast is donated to a child in need.

Smart Cookie was a winner in the Scotiabank youth empowerment challenge and TD entrepreneurship challenge.

Not to be outdone, Enactus Memorial’s Prince’s Operation Entrepreneur, a training program for transitioning Canadian Forces members, was a winner in the Capital One financial education challenge, while the College of the North Atlantic Grand Falls-Windsor’s Hope Matters, which transforms used plastic bags into yarn to make sleeping mats for homeless people, were victorious in the Scotiabank eco-living green challenge.

Both teams will move on to compete nationally May 14-16 at the 2018 Enactus Canada National Exposition in Toronto.
