ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Professionals in the province’s construction industry are coming together this week to share ideas, address challenges and explore future opportunities in the industry.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association (NLCA) annual conference kicks off Thursday in St. John’s.

Craig Drover, conference chair, says the construction industry is always evolving and it’s important to ensure the association’s members are ready to compete in a global landscape.

Despite a perceived downturn in the province’s economy, he said, there are opportunities on the horizon and the association’s members are engaged and enthusiastic about the future.

He said the annual conference is an important event for members.

“The communication and exchange of ideas with other construction professionals is integral to the future success of the construction industry in our province,” he said. “Create solutions, learn about the newest products and services and immerse yourself in an environment where dialogue and effective problem solving are on the forefront. NLCA’s conference and trade show will help you enhance your role as an industry leader and agent for continuous growth.”

The NLCA has nearly 700 members province wide.

As the voice of the provincial construction industry, the NLCA provides a forum through which members discuss and resolve matters of common interest.

There will be a number of business sessions during the conference, and guest speakers will cover areas of the construction outlook in the province, the impact of marijuana in the workplace and mitigating employer risk, finance and insurance issues, and government-related opportunities.

The conference and trade show runs until Saturday, culminating in an awards gala Saturday evening hosted by comedian Mark Critch.
