The Newfoundland and Labrador Credit Union (NLCU) will spread kindness and cash during international co-op week Oct. 15-19.

All next week, each of the NLCU’s 12 branches in this province will perform an act of kindness in their respective communities. It might be a food drive, a community cleanup or hosting a self-defence class for a female youth group. In addition, on Oct. 18, International Credit Union Day, the NLCU is inviting its member clients and the public to take part in a province-wide act of kindness in the form of a book drive for various schools and libraries throughout the province.

This year marks the first time the NLCU Charitable Foundation is getting in on the action. The foundation, through each of the 12 branches, has set up a Facebook contest where the public can vote on which charities should receive $1,000 donations. Voting is open now at facebook.com/nlcuhome and closes at noon on Friday, Oct. 12.
