ST. JOHN’S, NL – The provincial government is seeking public comments on the environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Placentia Bay Atlantic salmon aquaculture project.

The project’s proponent, Grieg NL Nurseries Ltd. and Grieg NL Seafarms Ltd., is planning to build and operate a land-based Atlantic salmon hatchery in Marystown and a seafarms in Placentia Bay.

The EIS describes the project and details an overview of the potential environmental effects of all phases of the project.

The document is available on the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment website at www.mae.gov.nl.ca/env_assessment/projects/Y2016/1834.

Paper copies will also be placed in the A.C. Hunter Library and Queen Elizabeth II Library in St. John’s, as well as the public libraries in Marystown, Gander and Corner Brook.

Written comments must be received by July 11.
