NL Hydro sent out a press release today, Feb, 14, that customers on diesel in Labrador had been incorrectly charged on their most recent bills.

“Some customers’ bills are inaccurate, and we sincerely apologize to customers for this error,” the release said. “We have taken immediate steps to correct the error and we are in the process of issuing corrected bills for impacted customers, which will include a credit for energy which was billed incorrectly.”

According to Hydro, the issue was that customers get charged two different rates in isolated diesel communities in Labrador, depending on usage, and people were charged at the higher rate. The first block energy rate (1000 killowatt hours) is a lower rate, with electricity use beyond the first block charged at progressively higher rates.

Hydro said they are reviewing their metering practices in an effort to ensure accurate meter readings. They ask customers who have any questions regarding the accuracy of their bill to call the customer service team at 1-888-737-1296.
