NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. — The North Sydney Mall is continuing to attract a variety of new tenants including doctors.
Natacha Ménard, director of leasing for Econo Malls, said a new collaborative care clinic is relocating their existing practice to their complex. Menard said the Refind Store, a non-profit operated by Haley Street Adult Services Society, was recently relocated inside the centre in order to accommodate the clinic.
“The collaborative care clinic is currently under construction and will be located closest to the centre’s entrance on the Walmart side,” said Menard in an email response to questions.
The doctors at the clinic include Dr. Joan Salah, Dr. Stephanie Langley, Dr. Stacy MacDonald and Dr. Dawn Browne. In addition, the clinic will have a family practice nurse and a social worker.
Menard said the North Sydney Mall is being marketed as the communities’ local service centre, adding Walmart, Sobeys and Dollarama draw significant traffic to the centre.
In April 2019 the Montreal-headquartered management firm held an open house at the North Sydney Mall in the hopes of attracting tenants.
There were 11 empty vacant stores in a gross-leasable area of roughly 178,480 square feet. The aim of the open house was to engage with community organizations, startup and online businesses, community services and companies looking to expand.
Since that time, as well as the clinic, Econo Malls secured two other tenants including Nova Scotia Works, Northside Employment & Resource Centre and Mother’s Putter. Mother’s Putter is a glow in the dark mini putt business which opened in the property in 2019. They also host birthday parties and special events.
The centre is also home to Schwartz Furniture, Island Fashions, a call centre, Treasure Kave, La Rouge Hair Salon, Money Mart and the Patio Screen room.
Now Menard said they are actively marketing the remaining vacancies for lease, which are ideally suited for service-oriented businesses as well as restaurants, since there are not currently any restaurants in the mall.
“Between those employed by the call centre, NEDAC and patients that will be coming to the clinic, a restaurant would be a great asset,” Menard added.
The complex spaces range from 600 sq. ft to 15,000 sq. ft. for permanent rentals or pop up/temporary set-ups. Kiosk opportunities are also an option.
An RBC ATM is located on the inside of the centre, closest to the main entrance on the Sobeys side.
A craft and community market sets up in the centre on Sundays. There are also EV charging stations at the mall for those needing to charge their electric vehicles.
Econo-Malls currently manages a portfolio of more than 48 retail properties throughout Eastern Canada.
