SYDNEY, N.S. — Finalists have been chosen for the Hire Me Cape Breton pitch competition that’s designed to showcase the island’s top talent.

The contest asked students approaching graduation, new grads, newcomers and job seekers to submit a 60-second video pitch to Cape Breton employers regarding why they should be their next hire.

Now the Cape Breton Partnership’s Connector Program contest has been narrowed to six finalists and the public will decide the $1,000 winner through an online vote.

“We are very pleased with the amount of high-quality submissions that we’ve received,” said Carla Arsenault, president and CEO of the Cape Breton Partnership in a news release.

“Although it was difficult to narrow down the finalists, this only proves the amount of talent that exists on our island. It is a great opportunity for these six individuals to gain exposure that will help them establish their professional networks here in Cape Breton.”

Finalists are Brian Dang, Ayha El-Darahali, Tham Le, Rachel Leck, Kelly MacIsaac and Chandrayog Yadav.

Their pitches can be viewed online at www.HireMeCapeBreton.com and voting will continue until 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 23.

The winning pitch gets the top prize of $1,000 and there’s also a $300 prize for second place and a $200 bonus for third place.

“We know that, in spite of the global pandemic, we have new graduates and hopeful job seekers ready to connect with Cape Breton companies,” said Cape Breton Connector program co-ordinator Robyn Lee Seale in a release.

“Hire Me Cape Breton is an opportunity for them to showcase their talent to the entire island and for the island to see just how much talent we have.”
