A St. John’s gardening shop wants to help protect its customers from getting caught up by some new laws around growing cannabis products at home.
Since the legalization of cannabis products this month, The Seed Company by E.W. Gaze believes a lot of the new laws that came into effect haven’t been properly communicated to the public.
“For example, did you know that the four plants per household rule applies to seedling as well,” assistant manager Jackson McLean asked in a press release.
“This means that the popular method of starting new plants early while the mature ones are getting ready to harvest is technically illegal if you grow your maximum amount of plants at a time.”
To help address the knowledge gap, the store has gone through the published legislation and set up a frequently asked questions section on its website. The company stresses that the answers are based on their interpretation of the laws and encourage individuals to perform their own due diligence.
The Seed Company is also inviting people to take part in their cannabis growing workshop this Thursday, Nov. 1, and join their Facebook group for even more advice. Tickets for the workshop are available here.
“We aren’t telling our customer what to do,” owner Peter Byrne explained, “we just want them to be aware of what is legal and what isn’t so they can make an informed decision and avoid surprises.”
