The community of 5,000 people has a growing population which has enjoyed 3.5 % growth over the last Census. Deer Lake has a catchment area with 6,200 people living within a 20 km. drive, 30,000 within 50 km., 40,000 within 100 km., 103,000 within 350 km. and 204,000 people who live within a 450 km. drive of the town.

The Town also boasts Deer Lake Regional Airport, which is the 4th busiest in Atlantic Canada, behind only Halifax, St. John’s and Moncton. In addition, Deer Lake has many strengths, including its central location which places the town as a service hub for points north, east and south.

These factors have led to the development of a vibrant business sector, with businesses spread across many sectors. The Town of Deer Lake is businessfriendly and offers tax incentives for new businesses or those which implement enhancements that add more than $50,000 to the assessed value of the business. It also boasts a vibrant Chamber of Commerce.

Deer Lake is a growing tourism centre. The town is the Snowmobile Hub of Newfoundland and is connected to a network of groomed trails. Deer Lake is located 20 minutes’ drive from both Gros Morne National Park and Marble Mountain and is situated on the mighty Humber River, well-known for its world-class salmon fi shing.

The Newfoundland Insectarium, one of two such facilities in all of Canada, is just north of the town and within the community itself is a sandy community beach ready for development.
