Bonavista erects memorial remembering former deputy mayor and teacher


The Town of Bonavista commemorated the boardwalk to the memory of Bramwell Mouland on Saturday, July 15.

Mouland, a former teacher, councillor and deputy mayor passed away two years ago.

His wife, Marge Mouland, and his children, Tina Newell and Derrick Mouland, were among the people on hand at the ceremony.

Bonavista Mayor Betty Fitzgerald spoke about the many contributions Mouland made to the community,

“He did his very best and he was, as we called him, the keeper of our boardwalk,” said Fitzgerald. “He kept a eye on things there even after he was no longer involved with the council. He watered the flowers at that site and made sure everything was took care of.”

Many family and friends, council members, representatives from groups Mouland was involved, and fellow teachers were also there.

Some of the organizations Mouland was a vital member of include: the town council, Lions Club, Matthew Legacy, and the United Church.
