With polls across Atlantic Canada about to close, Elections Canada has confirmed misleading robocalls have gone out to voters in the region.

“We have received reports about some electors receiving robocalls indicating that election day is on a date other than today. We have no indication these calls are widespread,” said Ghislain Desjardins, a spokesperson for Elections Canada in an email.

Elections Canada confirmed that they have received reports of voters in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Quebec receiving such calls.

“Today is election day, and the only day to vote. It is illegal to willfully misdirect electors in order to prevent them from voting,” Desjardins said.

Elections Canada is asking anyone who has received suspicious or incorrect information about the electoral process to call 1-800-463-6868 as soon as possible.

Anyone with questions on where, when and ways to vote in the federal election should consult the Elections Canada website, or reach out by phone.
