On Tuesday afternoon, Lady Gaga posed a simple and innocent question to Twitter: “What’s fortnight?”

Certainly, the pop star could not have predicted what she had coming. But first, let’s establish two things. First, there is an immensely popular and addictive online video game called “Fortnite.” So popular, in fact, that it was cited in more than 200 divorce proceedings in the U.K. in 2018, according to The Daily Dot .

It is very likely that is what Gaga was referring to, but she could have very easily been asking about “fortnight,” the measure of time that means two weeks, since she did spell it that way.

In any case, she received in excess of 200,000 replies as of this writing, with many offering her the definition of said unit of time and many others offering her an explanation of the video game, and many, many others simply choosing to troll her. As the internet is wont to do.

In fact, the replies to the tweet include an endless array of memes and videos, and could very easily serve as a handy guide to understanding Twitter itself.
