Calgary teen and rising music star Tate McRae has been named MTV’s global “Push” artist for July.

It’s more evidence that the 16-year-old Calgarian has safely entered next-big-thing territory as a pop sensation. MTV Push is a monthly program that has the music channel juggernaut showcasing a new artist every month by presenting exclusive live performances, interviews, music videos and other content. Past honorees have included Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Khalid and H.E.R.

McRae released her debut EP All the Things I Never Said for RCA Records last January. It has been streamed at least 130 million times. Later that month, she embarked on her first headlining tour with sold-out shows in Toronto, Brooklyn, Berlin, Amsterdam and London.

Since March, she has been largely waiting out the COVID-19 pandemic at her parents’ home in Calgary.

Over the summer, McRae has released several singles, including You Broke Me First. A new EP is set for release later this year.
