Famed Food Network star Buddy Valastro, 43, known as The Cake Boss, took to his personal twitter account to report he had recently suffered a devastating injury to his right hand – his dominant working hand – after having had it impaled in a dreadful bowling accident in his home.

The reality TV star – who personally shared the news of his accident on his Instagram account @buddyvalastro – posted a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed with his damaged and heavily-bandaged hand hanging from a sling, with the caption: “involved in a terrible accident a few days ago.”

As reported in www.people.com, a representative for Valastro told PEOPLE “the accident happened while the chef was spending ‘quality time’ with his family at home, which is equipped with a bowling alley.

“There was a malfunction with the bowling pinsetter, a common fix in the past, but it turned into a terrible accident,” they said.

TMZ reported the famed cake master had tried to release the bowling pin from the mechanism, but his hand become lodged and compressed within the unit. His representative described that, unable to remove his hand, Valastro could see a thin, metal rod slowly yet repeatedly impale his hand several times “between his middle finger and his ring finger.”
TMZ also reported his two sons, Buddy Jr., and Marco “rushed to the garage for a reciprocating saw to cut through the metal rod,” and finally got his hand free. He was subsequently rushed to hospital where he had surgery first to stabilize his mangled hand, later having a second surgery performed by a renown Manhattan-based orthopedic surgeon.

Always upbeat, the pic he posted had the line…”what do you think of my new accessory?” And offered a short video explaining what had happened to him. He has since been released from hospital and is recuperating at home.

Representatives for the iconic food star, who has elevated cake decorating to an art form, told Entertainment Weekly (https://ew.com) “it will be an uphill battle as it’s Buddy’s dominant right hand and he will need prolonged recovery and therapy.” The site also reported many fellow chefs have replied to Valastro’s post and sent well wishes, including Emeril Lagasse, Cat Cora, and Duff Goldman, the latter of whom stars alongside Valastro on the baking show Buddy vs. Duff.
