ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Heather Smith was named winner of the 2018 BMO Winterset Award for excellence in Newfoundland and Labrador writing, for her book “Ebb & Flow,” in a ceremony held at Government House on Thursday afternoon.

Robert Chafe was nominated for “Between Breaths,” and Melissa Barbeau was nominated for “The Luminous Sea.”

The winner receives $12,500, while the finalists each receive $3,000.
