Before you take style advice from me, I want you to know that no matter the time of day, it is safe to assume I am wearing sweatpants.
I have day sweatpants and night sweatpants, I have outdoor sweatpants and indoor sweatpants, I have Roots size extra small sweatpants and I have men’s Walmart size large sweatpants that I have to hold up as I walk from my television to my fridge.
I am not exactly a style icon, but here are the celebrity fashion lines that I think are worth buying.
1. Ivy Park by Beyoncé
If Beyoncé wanted me to wear a shirt made entirely of tuna fish, I would do it. Luckily, she has designed a simple, yet edgy, athleisure line that pairs perfectly with my uniform of messy bun and oversized sweatpants. Her line consists mainly of cropped t-shirts, joggers and slides. Beyoncé recently partnered with Adidas for a new line, so up your credit card limit now.
2. Kendall + Kylie by Kendall and Kylie Jenner
I gave up on keeping up with the Kardashians years ago, yet I couldn’t help but check in when Kendall and Kylie released a clothing line together. The bathing suits are my favourite, but they also have really cute bags, coats and shoes. I hate to pull a reverse Robin Hood and just continue to give to the rich, but I already have a fanny pack by them and I’m considering going back for a one-piece swimsuit.
3. Draper James by Reese Witherspoon
Reese’s clothes are not exactly my style (because they don’t have an elastic waistband and holes in inappropriate places) but I can’t deny how beautiful they are. Her fashion line has a distinctly southern vibe with tons of printed and ruffled dresses, blouses and bright handbags.
4. LC by Lauren Conrad
The Hills was my gateway drug to a lifelong obsession with reality TV, and Lauren Conrad continues to be present in my life through Instagram and her clothing line. I’ve never made a purchase, but I browse every so often and LC has endless adorable jumpsuits, modest bathing suits and strappy sandals.
5. Good American by Khloe Kardashian
Khloe exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations with size inclusive jeans, bodysuits and athletic gear. Her clothing is expensive, but it’s filled with flattering basics that you can wear for years to come.
Celebs who missed the mark:
Eva Mendes Collection: If you’re a secretary from the ’60s, you’re going to love this line. If browns and yellows are your colour palette, then fill your cart, sister.
Jessica Simpson Clothing: I have a pair of Jessica Simpson shoes that are in my top wedding wardrobe rotation and she has one of the most successful celebrity clothing lines of all time so she’s doing something right.
Lately, I find her clothes leaning too far into “I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom” territory, with belted tankinis and strange print combinations.
I’m not the fashion police, I’m just a girl at home in her sweatpants, scrolling through the internet, pretending I can afford to buy new clothes, when we all know my income goes directly to snacks and dog toys.
