Site Specific – Opening Reception
Opening reception for new and beautifully rendered new works by David Baltzer at Red Ochre Gallery from 5-8 p.m. The exhibition, Site Specific, will show from Oct. 10 to Nov. 2 at the Red Ochre Gallery, 96 Duckworth St. Gallery hours are 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. This mid-career artist is continuing to gain much attention and recognition. Purchases made during the opening reception will receive a 10 per cent discount.

Human Library
Human Library at Rocket Bakery from 4-6 p.m. The Human Library is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. The Human Library is a place where real people are on loan to listeners. A place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered. Meet five guests we will call our “human books.” They will be available to check out for 15 minutes or so to have a chat, and tell you all about their lives, their language, their culture and more.

Helping Shriners help kids. The Ladies of the Sabre will have their fall card party at the Mazol Shrine Centre, 530 Topsail Rd., on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Bring your own cards and basket. Opening Receptions
The Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador invites you to the opening reception for three exhibitions of contemporary craft at the Craft Council Gallery, 275 Duckworth St. Lisa Downey’s solo exhibition Mom Made Us brings you down memory lane through the artist’s view of her mother’s creation. The curated group exhibition Crafted Beasts explores the relationship of folklore and contemporary craft. Curator Emily Critch brings together the nuances of sewing specific to Newfoundland and Labrador, and demonstrates how indigenous women exercise their political and creative sovereignties. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.

The Orangetheory Fitness Cape to Cabot 2019 Health Expo is happening Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Marine Institute on Ridge Road from 1-5 p.m. Meet health and fitness vendors with goods and services for sale. There will also be a children’s bouncy castle. The Gathering Place will take your donation of gently used running shoes, and Athletics NorthEAST will collect your non-perishable food items and cash donations for local food banks.
