As fall moves on to winter, it’s now that time of the year when sailing is put from ship to shore and the pleasure crafts and sailing boats are removed from the waters and secured on dry land for the winter months.
This week, boat owners are gathered at the Holyrood Marina in the Conception Bay town to removing their boats and securing them on shore.

One of the boat owners, Dominic Broaders, said the sailing members of the marina assist each other in moving the boats and they have been removing anywhere from 10 to 15 boats daily. He said they expect to have them all out of the water within the next week or so.
Boats are not permitted to remain in the water during the winter season as per regulations, and also to avoid potential winter ice damage.
The Telegram visited the Marina this week, and captured some of the sights of the activity at the marina.
As the removal was taking place, other owners were preparing their docked boats for the winter season covering once they were on land and secured for the winter.
The boats will once again take to the waters in May for the 2021 summer sailing season.
