ST. PIERRE, FRANCE – Every year on July 14, the French stop to celebrate their national holiday, la Fête nationale, as they formally call it.
For the English, it’s Bastille Day.
It commemorates the Storming of the Bastille in Paris in 1789, a turning point in the French Revolution.
In St. Pierre, during the day Place du Général de Gaulle comes alive with music, food, drink, dancing and games for the children.
There’s also confetti, heaps of it – bleu, blanc and rouge, of course, the colours of the French flag.
Surrounded by such a delightful and festive atmosphere, it’s hard not to feel French for a day!
