CARBONEAR, N.L. — “Snow’s a plenty in 2020” is the official slogan of the 2020 Carbonear Winter Carnival and it’s certainly true. Gracie Mugford, a Grade 3 student at Carbonear Academy, wrote the slogan and was this year’s contest winner.
The carnival runs from Feb. 21 to March 1. The opening ceremonies are at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21 at the Recreation Complex, followed by fireworks at 7:30 p.m. and a free swim at the pool starting at 8 p.m.
The Best Dressed Snowman contest is a highlight this year, with prizes being awarded for first and second place. Photos must be sent to the council office by 2 p.m. Feb. 26. The 15th annual youth to teen art contest is back again this year, with primary, elementary and teen divisions. Artwork must be dropped off to the town office by Feb. 20 and will be on display during the winter carnival.
A number of other events are planned, including a snowshoe walk, movie nights, tea parties and plenty of live music.
