Sophia Wedderburn knew when she became a student at Citadel High School that she was in a place where she would “thrive and grow in countless ways.”

Wedderburn said she is proud to be a graduate of the Halifax high school.

Principal Joe Morrison noted Wedderburn’s contribution to various extracurricular activities at the school, including student council (committee executive in Grade 11, secretary in Grade 12), orchestra (section leader), the school musical and varsity soccer.

“She always seeks out leadership opportunities, and aims to take the initiative, helps out her peers and has made many positive contributions to her school community! Next year, she's headed to the University of King's College for a Bachelor of Arts, on the Prince Scholarship,” Morrison told the Saltwire Network recently.

Morrison also described grad Makye Clayton as an extraordinary and talented student, athlete, musician and community member.

He said Clayton was a valued team player on Citadel’s basketball and football team and is equally artistic, having recorded and performed his original music to great success.

“As an executive member of Citadel Highs Know Thy Self, he showed his passion and commitment to his community. His involvement in Hope Blooms has set him in the path for success at St. Mary's, where he will be studying business,” Morrison said.

Clayton, who is known by staff and classmates for his beats and rhymes, said in a recent interview his fondest memory from his years at Citadel High was a talent show where Principal Morrison joined him on the stage while Clayton was the emcee.

“He was doing dance moves that I would do,” Clayton remembers fondly.

"It looked super-funny, and I have the video on my phone. I will always remember that."
