The class of 2020 celebrated the successes of 36 grads during the recent 58th annual Kinkora Regional High School (KRHS) graduation, in Kinkora, P.E.I.
Valedictorian Charlotte Linkletter successfully balanced athletics with academics. Linkletter was busy competing in women’s hockey and volleyball while being a top student. That earned her an opportunity to study kinesiology at Dalhousie University in the fall.
“As busy as my life sounds with sports, I managed to pass all of my high school courses and graduate with honours. The teachers at Kinkora Regional High School deserve a massive thank you for this achievement,” Linkletter told the SaltWire Network recently.
“Being a part of a small school as supportive and caring as KRHS truly made the difference in my high school career. I am proud to say that I am now an alumni of Kinkora Regional High School.”
Student council president Abi Hamilton shared the Student of the Year Award with Katie Affleck.
Hamilton said she was active in school sports, concert band and youth parliament, adding she plans to study psychology, with a minor in law, at Mount Allison.
“Throughout my life, I have always had a special place in my heart and a passion for helping children. When I was eight, my family adopted my younger sister Joanna and from then on, I have wanted to pursue an education to become a family lawyer specializing in child custody,” Hamilton said.
“My high school experience at KRHS has been truly special, one I will cherish forever.”
Brayden Lawless was awarded the Governor General’s Medal for Academic Excellence for the highest average in Grade 12, as well as several other prizes, awards and several scholarships to the University of New Brunswick, where he plans to study chemical engineering.
Lawless also kept himself busy playing football, hockey and rugby.
“I am very grateful to have gone to a small school. Kinkora is a very supportive community and is a place where everyone knows each other,” Lawless said.
He said he is grateful to still have the opportunity to graduate with his class, even with the unusual circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
