A special maple tree was planted at C.C. Loughlin Elementary in Corner Brook on Sept. 23 to celebrate National Forest Week and National Tree Day.
Students from several classes at the school took part in the event with a few of them helping shovel soil around the tree.
Elvis Loveless, the minister of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture, was in the city for the ceremony. A similar event was held in St. John’s at the Kenmount Terrace Community Park with Sarah Stoodley, minister of Digital Government and Service NL.
National Forest Week is an annual event held to promote and highlight forest benefits through community events such as National Tree Day.
As part of National Tree Day forestry staff also distributed 3,000 tree seedlings from the Centre of Agriculture and Forestry Research in Wooddale to students at several schools throughout the province.
