Extending her creativity

You may know Corner Brook, N.L. resident Allison Crowe for making music, but these days she's also channeling her creativity into another passion — making soap.

Crowe's Fluttering Soap Co. started two years ago when she came down with a really bad cold.

“I was laid up on the couch for two to three weeks," she tells SaltWire's Diane Crocker. “And I got really into watching soap-making videos.”

What started as a hobby and a relaxation technique has now blossomed into another outlet for Crowe's creativity.

Check out some of her creations and watch a video of her soap-making prowess

Scouting for the champs

The opportunity to return to the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning was too good of a fit for Summerside, P.E.I. native Grant Sonier to pass up.

The 55-year-old recently joined the 2020 Stanley Cup champions as an amateur scout after working the last two seasons as a pro scout with the Carolina Hurricanes.

“My connection with Tampa is their assistant GM and director of amateur scouting is Al Murray, and we worked together in Los Angeles (with the Kings),” Sonier tells SaltWire's Jason Simmonds.

“We had some really good drafts together. It just happened that there was an opening and my contract with Carolina had run out.”

Sonier had previously scouted the Lightning from 1999 to 2002.

In his new role, Sonier will focus on the six Maritime teams in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He scouted his first two games in Halifax last weekend and is starting to get a book on the players.
