It's harvest season in Nova Scotia. It’s the time of the year when the fall leaves begin to change colour, bright yellow sunflowers bloom, and patches of pumpkins line the country roads.
Autumn is also the perfect season to go apple picking. Nova Scotia has been producing these tasty sweet fruits for centuries. In fact, Nova Scotia’s climate creates the ideal environment to grow apples.
Head to the Valley for a great day of apple picking and more fun activities at Noggins Corner Farm. The eight-acre family-run farm has been cultivated apples for centuries.
The orchards are teeming with 16 varieties of apples. From the popular McIntosh, to juicy Spartans and sweet Honeycrisps, there are so many to pick and add to your bag.
Noggins gives you a handout list of all the varieties, and how good they are for eating or baking. You can even hop on a wagon ride that drops you off right at the orchards, great for the whole family.
The farm fun doesn't stop there. Noggins has a popular corn maze each year. It’s filled with maze quests for visitors to do as they weave through the towering corn fields. It's eight acres big, so allow yourself over an hour to explore. This October, Noggins will have its haunted house open just in time for Halloween as well.
When you are finished with the maze adventure, you may have worked up an appetite. Noggins has a food truck that serves up corn on the cob slathered in butter.
On your way out, you can grab a pumpkin to take home, or even a variety of other fruits and vegetables that the farm produces.
Noggins u-pick and maze is open mid-September to the end of October.
