While living in India, Myrick decided she would start writing a book about her songs, but was unable to complete it. When she found visual art, there seemed to be a clear pairing of her music and painting that has resulted in the coming show.

“They’re my life, basically, and all the things I’ve gone through are reflected in the songs,” says Myrick about the songs in the exhibition some of which she co-wrote with artists such as Ron Hynes, and many she wrote on her own, “I’m using the songs and I’m using the art to kind of weave that message.”

“I was looking for a way to do my first real series of paintings,” says Myrick, whose husband suggested that she use the songs and stories behind them as inspiration for her series of paintings.

“Each song, story, and painting is like a unit,” says Myrick about how the process of re-visiting old songs to create her painting was also about coming full circle with old anger, hurt, and loss.

Myrick wants to send a positive message about believing in yourself and your ability to face whatever is to come with “Song Series.”

“There’s a strong, powerful message there and it’s really about believing in yourself and believing that you can overcome,” says Myrick about the show, “When you cultivate a sense of belief in yourself it helps you to face whatever comes … That’s kind of the message I want to get out to people”

“I’m finally ready to be able to share this because it’s pretty personal and the show itself, in parts, it’s pretty raw … it’s touching topics and deeply emotional issues that I’m talking about here,” Myrick says about her show, which deals with themes of grief, abuse, and manipulation, and has been a long time in the making.

“I’m excited to bring this home to Newfoundland,” says Myrick regarding what she is looking forward to about performing for a home audience again. “I’m trying with my art to give a positive message and bring a positive message about and I’m excited to share that with people.”

Myrick is looking forward to seeing how the show will be received with the music and painting together.

Myrick will be doing seven performances at “Song Series” at different locations around Newfoundland from Aug. 18 to Sept. 8.
