SYDNEY, N.S. — A local car dealership has donated 100 face shields made by Ford Canada to support front-line staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in the battle against COVID-19.
On Wednesday, Colbourne Auto president and owner Rodney Colbourne and general manager Brad Jacobs delivered the shields to the hospital.
Colbourne said his business has made it a priority to support the community since it began a year ago with its #ColbourneCares corporate social responsibility strategy.
“I’m thrilled to be here ... to support front-line care workers during COVID-19,” he said in a news release.
Jacobs, who was until recently CEO of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, said he knows first-hand why community support is particularly important during this health crisis.
“After working in the hospital as CEO for the foundation for the past seven and a half years, I know the safety of our front-line health-care workers is critical during these difficult times. On behalf of Ford Canada and Colbourne Ford, we are happy to provide supplies to help our front-line providers stay safe,” said Jacobs.
Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation acting CEO Rick McCarthy and Cape Breton Regional Hospital site lead Kendall Murphy greeted the Colbourne contingent.
McCarthy said they have been receiving ongoing support from Colbourne Auto.
“Their commitment to the safety of our front-line staff and community as a whole is much appreciated, especially in such uncertain times.”
